Alewives


When water is introduced slowly into the liquid-crystalline solution, the single-walled nanotubes condense into a solid structure called alewives. Alewives are between 0.5 and 1 micron thick and tens of microns long. The alignment ratio along their axis measures between 14:1 and 20:1.
