Prototype supercapacitor
John Chmiola and Cristelle Portet attaching a prototype supercapacitor device with carbide-derived carbon electrodes to a toy car powered by a fuel and/or solar cell. This work shows the practicality of introducing supercapacitors to provide high power for acceleration, while the fuel cell or solar cell (weather permitting) provides backup power in the zero-emission cars of tomorrow.
