Catalyst breaks new record
Researchers in the US and China have developed a new technique to produce platinum nanocatalysts that are up to 400% more reactive than existing commercial platinum catalysts per unit surface area. The secret to the novel nanocrystals performance lies in their unusual "tetrahexahedral" structure that contains 24 facets. The crystals could be used to improve the efficiency of chemical processes such as catalysing fuel-cell oxidation and producing hydrogen for fuel cells.
