Imaging live brain structures
Manganese oxide (MnO) nanoparticles can be used to enhance contrast in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and reveal detailed anatomical structures in live mouse brains. The technique, developed by Taeghwan Hyeon of Seoul National University in Korea and colleagues, could find applications in basic neuroscience research and might also help manage neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
