Metal-polymer nanocomposites made easy
Metal-polymer nanocomposites yield desirable mechanical and electrical
properties at mixtures just below the percolation threshold – the point at which the material becomes highly conductive – thanks to the presence of narrow (<5 nm) polymer gaps or quantum contacts. Standing in the way of this attractive composition is the challenge of dispersing particles uniformly within a difficult-to-process polymer matrix, but scientists in the US think that they have the situation under control.
