LC test cell

With and without nanoparticle-doped liquid crystal (LC) in the polarizing optical microscope. Figure 1(a) is the nanoparticle-doped LC sample and shows a uniform dark state in the crossed polarizers and figure 1(b) shows normal LC domains with no alignment. (Credit: C-W Kuo).
