Computers get to work on graphene ribbon

In the last 20 years, scientists have discovered that electrons in quantum structures made from semiconductor heterostructures and superlattices have a quantization that is different from that in 3D macroscopic materials. This leads to "exotic" phenomena, such as integer and fraction quantum Hall effects, resonant tunnelling and quantum ballistic transport. Now, researchers in Turkey have calculated that most of these phenomena can be seen in a single graphene ribbon. The finding is not only important for fundamental physics but could help advance research in novel devices based on graphene.
