Odd and even numbers
Different magnetic ground configurations of manganese nanowires on Ni(001). The nanochains with an even number of Mn atoms (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) prefer a noncollinear ground state, the odd ones a collinear one. Credit: Phys. Rev. Lett..
