PM fiber-Polarization maintaining fiber is also named polarization preserving fiber or HI-BI fiber.
Polarization maintaining fiber-PM, also known as “polarization preserving” or “HiBi” (high birefringence) fiber, can be produced in various configurations. In addition to the PANDA style used by Nufern, other designs such as elliptical core, elliptical clad, and bow-tie forms have been tried.
The PANDA construction methodology allows the independent control of the optical core, and the stress rod size, location, and composition. These four independent variables absolutely dictate the performance superiority of a PANDA-style fiber design over all competing technologies for maintaining the polarization state of light in an optical fiber.
